Balogun Rejects Everton Move as Premier League Transfer Talks Collapse
Folarin Balogun has reportedly turned down the opportunity to join Everton, choosing to remain with AS Monaco despite renewed negotiations between the two clubs.
Everton had been attempting to strengthen their attack before the transfer window closes, with Balogun emerging as one of their preferred targets. However, after further discussions with Monaco, the 25-year-old forward is understood to have decided against a move to the Premier League.
The decision brings an end, at least for now, to Everton’s pursuit of Balogun. The Toffees are in particular need of attacking reinforcements after Iliman Ndiaye moved to Manchester City and Beto completed a transfer to Fiorentina in Italy.
Everton had reportedly explored several alternatives as they attempted to compensate for those departures. One of their options was Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, with the Merseyside club understood to have asked about the possibility of taking the Netherlands international on loan.
However, United reportedly did not approve the proposal, leaving Everton with limited time to identify another striker before the transfer window closes.
Balogun, meanwhile, has already returned to Monaco’s training ground following his decision to remain in the Principality. The United States international was reportedly seen back in training as the club prepared for the next stage of the season.
His decision comes during a particularly hectic final stretch of the transfer window, with clubs across Europe attempting to complete deals while also protecting their own squads from late approaches.
Another move that could affect the Premier League market is Lamine Camara’s proposed transfer to Chelsea. The Senegalese midfielder had reportedly been closing in on a move to London, but financial regulations have complicated the situation and could ultimately prevent the transfer from going through.
The final days of the summer window have therefore produced a series of unexpected twists. Everton must now continue searching for an attacking solution, while Monaco have managed to retain a forward they were reportedly prepared to discuss with an interested Premier League club.
With the transfer deadline rapidly approaching, there could still be further surprises before the market finally shuts. For Everton, however, the immediate priority is clear: they need to find another solution after Balogun chose to stay in France.
