Shayne Pattynama looks ahead to his future with Persija Jakarta with high optimism. He understands what it takes to earn a starting spot under Shin Tae-yong.

Shayne Pattynama faced a challenging period after joining Persija midway through the 2025/26 season. He saw limited playing time after losing out in competition to Dony Tri Pamungkas for the left-back position.

Looking ahead to the 2026/27 season, Persija aims to turn over a new leaf by appointing Shin Tae-yong as head coach. This decision was warmly welcomed by Shayne Pattynama.

Shayne Pattynama is already familiar with Shin Tae-yong, having worked with him during their time together on the Indonesian National Team. The South Korean coach was the one who originally gave him the opportunity to represent the Garuda squad.

Knowing Shin Tae-yong’s demands on his players, the former Buriram United player believes this familiarity gives him an edge in earning a place in the starting XI.

“We have to work hard; there will be plenty of training sessions and tough effort. So, I’m ready to work hard again to understand the tactical system,” Shayne Pattynama said.

“Of course, I already know the coach from before. But we have new teammates, so we need to get to know each other and prepare for the new season.”

The competition for the left-back starting position remains fierce. Alongside Dony Tri Pamungkas, Shayne Pattynama must now also compete with newly signed Pratama Arhan.

It is entirely possible that Shayne’s position could be shifted to secure more playing time. However, he can now also operate as a center-back, a role he previously filled for the Indonesian National Team during the 2026 AFF Championship.
