New Persebaya Surabaya striker Ramadhan Sananta is expected to play a key role when his side face Malaysian club Penang FC in a pre-season friendly.

Persebaya Surabaya are continuing their preparations for the 2026/27 Super League season. After winning the 2026 President’s Cup, the team, known as Bajul Ijo, will take on Malaysian side Penang FC at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT) in Surabaya on Saturday night, August 15.

One player who could prove particularly valuable for Persebaya is Ramadhan Sananta, who is already familiar with their opponents. During his time with DPMM FC, Sananta faced Penang FC, giving him useful experience ahead of the upcoming encounter.

“I already know a little about Penang’s style and characteristics. However, they obviously have a different squad now and may have developed into a stronger team. We will also prepare as well as possible for the match,” Sananta said, as quoted by I League.

“We are certainly ready for the game. As players, we want to give our best and perform at our highest level,” he added.

Persebaya’s Brazilian forward Gledson Paixao echoed Sananta’s determination. Although the match is only a friendly, Paixao believes Persebaya must approach it with the same seriousness as a competitive fixture.

“We want to maintain our level of performance and high standards. The expectations placed on us remain high. Therefore, every match must be approached seriously, as if it were a final,” the Brazilian said.

“Whether it is a friendly or an official match, we will always try to give 100 percent,” he added.

With Sananta’s previous experience against Penang FC and Persebaya’s strong motivation ahead of the new season, the encounter at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium will provide another important test for Bajul Ijo before the 2026/27 Super League campaign begins.
