Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has offered the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) to PSSI chairman Erick Thohir as a potential venue for the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup.

On Monday afternoon, PSSI chairman Erick Thohir met with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at Jakarta City Hall. The meeting focused on the upcoming Southeast Asian international football tournament, the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, which is scheduled to take place from September 21 to October 6, 2026.

As previously announced, Indonesia and Hong Kong have been selected by FIFA as the hosts of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup. Indonesia have been drawn into Group A alongside India, Malaysia and Singapore.

Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Monday morning, Erick Thohir explained that two stadiums are currently scheduled to host the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup: the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta and Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (SJH) in Bandung.

Interestingly, during his meeting with Erick, Pramono Anung revealed that the Jakarta provincial government had initially offered Jakarta International Stadium as a venue for the tournament. However, the proposal could not go ahead because JIS is scheduled to host a concert.

As a result, the Jakarta Provincial Government offered two alternative venues for the tournament: the Soemantri Brodjonegoro Sports Centre (GOR Soemantri Brodjonegoro) and Lapangan Banteng.

“Actually, we also offered JIS. But because there will be a concert at JIS, the two other venues are the possibilities,” Pramono Anung said in an official statement released by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

“And we will provide our full support, including promoting the tournament in public spaces owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government, so that the event can run successfully,” he added.

Erick Thohir thanked Pramono Anung for the Jakarta government’s support. He also expressed hope that the backing from the provincial government would help Indonesia achieve positive results at the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup.

“He understands very well what needs to be supported by the Jakarta Provincial Government. So I would like to thank the Governor,” Erick Thohir said.

“Once again, we ask for maximum support from the Jakarta Provincial Government, as well as the football community, to become part of our national team’s journey and help them continue to deliver the best possible results in the future,” said Erick Thohir, who also serves as Indonesia’s Minister of Youth and Sports.
