Leweling Set to Stay at Stuttgart Despite Interest from AS Roma and Everton
VfB Stuttgart winger Jamie Leweling is reportedly set to remain at the MHPArena despite late interest from AS Roma and Everton ahead of the summer transfer deadline.
Both clubs have been exploring attacking reinforcements, with Everton in particular looking to strengthen their forward line amid the expected departure of Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City. Leweling emerged as one of the players under consideration, but a move now appears increasingly unlikely.
According to Sky Sports Germany, the 25-year-old has made it clear that he would prefer to stay at Stuttgart and has turned down several approaches over the course of the summer.
Roma had reportedly made an offer worth around €35 million, while Everton had also made enquiries regarding the winger’s availability. However, Leweling is understood to have decided to continue his career with the Bundesliga club, where he has been playing since January 2024.
His decision effectively removes Stuttgart’s winger from the market despite the interest from two prominent clubs.
Roma have subsequently turned their attention to other options, with Chelsea attacker Jamie Gittens reportedly emerging as a potential alternative. However, Chelsea are understood to be reluctant to let the former Borussia Dortmund player leave at this stage.
The Blues are already facing the possibility of losing Mykhailo Mudryk to Tottenham Hotspur and may therefore prefer to retain Gittens to maintain sufficient depth in attack.
Leweling has been an important player for Stuttgart since arriving in Baden-Württemberg. Over two and a half years at the club, he has made 126 appearances across all competitions, scoring 20 goals and providing 22 assists.
The winger was also part of the Stuttgart squad that secured Champions League qualification, giving the club an opportunity to compete in Europe’s premier competition this season.
Leweling remains under contract with Stuttgart until 2029, further strengthening the Bundesliga club’s position as the transfer deadline approaches.
For Roma and Everton, his decision means they will have to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements. For Stuttgart, meanwhile, retaining an established first-team player is a significant boost as they prepare for another demanding campaign on both the domestic and European stage.
