Liverpool Could Lose Two More Players Before Deadline Day
Liverpool could face a late-window reshuffle with Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones both reportedly being targeted by different clubs ahead of the September transfer deadline.
With Andoni Iraola preparing Liverpool for their weekend clash against Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds have already strengthened several areas of the squad. After Jeremy Jacquet was secured during Arne Slot’s tenure, Liverpool have remained relatively quiet in the market, adding only Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo to their ranks.
However, that situation could change before the transfer window closes.
According to the Mirror, Liverpool may be forced to part ways with two important first-team players before deadline day. Gakpo is one of the names attracting serious interest, with Tottenham reportedly ready to make a move for the Netherlands international.
Spurs are believed to be prepared to pay around £70 million for the winger as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen the left side of his attack. Gakpo has emerged as a leading candidate for the position and could become one of Tottenham’s major targets before the market shuts.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Tottenham are already negotiating personal terms with Gakpo. The London club are understood to be working to reach an agreement with the player before formally approaching Liverpool with an offer.
Liverpool could also be on the verge of losing Jones, with the midfielder reportedly closing in on a transfer to Inter Milan.
Romano reports that the England international is increasingly likely to join the Nerazzurri in a deal worth around €30 million. Personal terms between Jones and Inter are understood to have been agreed, while a medical examination is expected to be scheduled soon as the transfer moves towards its final stages.
Jones remains an important figure in Liverpool’s midfield and has made a significant contribution since breaking into the first team. The midfielder has accumulated 228 appearances across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 25 assists.
His impending departure would therefore mark the end of a long association with his boyhood club. Having progressed through Liverpool’s academy, Jones could now be just days away from beginning a new chapter in Serie A.
With the transfer deadline approaching in early September, Liverpool could have some important decisions to make. Losing both Gakpo and Jones in the final stages of the window would represent a significant change to Iraola’s squad and could force the club back into the market for replacements.
