Luis Enrique Praises Two PSG Stars After End Ligue 1 Winless Run
Paris Saint-Germain finally secured their first Ligue 1 victory of the season after beating Stade Brestois 1-0 away from home, with Luis Enrique praising the growing partnership between new attacking duo Ferran Torres and Ousmane Dembele.
The reigning champions had gone three league matches without a win before travelling to the Stade Francis-Le Ble on Monday morning. Ferran ended that frustrating run with the only goal of the match, finding the net in the sixth minute.
The Spain international completed a flowing attacking move involving Joao Neves and Dembele before producing a low finish that proved enough to give PSG all three points.
Ferran has enjoyed an encouraging start to life in Paris. The forward has now scored six goals in five appearances since joining the French champions, quickly establishing himself as an important part of Enrique’s attacking plans.
The PSG manager was pleased with the connection between Ferran and Dembele, although he acknowledged that his team still have areas that need improving.
“Today I really enjoyed the connection between Ferran and Ousmane. We got the three points and we are happy,” Enrique said, as quoted by Goal International.
“But I think we still need to improve. Sometimes, when we don’t have the ball, opponents make things difficult for us. We need to control matches better and have more possession.”
Dembele also highlighted his relationship with Ferran after the match. The pair already know each other well from their time together at Barcelona, where they spent around a year and a half as teammates.
“I played with him for a year and a half at Barcelona. He is a fantastic player and a brilliant No. 9. He is always there when you need him,” Dembele said of his teammate.
The comments come as Dembele himself continues to operate under scrutiny despite his importance to PSG. The France international has faced criticism over his recent performances, but he insists that outside opinions will not alter his approach.
Rather than focusing on the noise surrounding his form, Dembele remains determined to continue working hard and make the most of every opportunity handed to him. For PSG, the victory in Brest offers more than just three points.
It also provides evidence that the partnership between Ferran and Dembele could become a valuable component of Enrique’s attack as the season develops. After finally ending their difficult domestic run, PSG will now hope their first Ligue 1 victory can serve as the foundation for a more consistent campaign.
