Mitchell Baker Speaks Out After Indonesia’s AFF 2026 Semi-Final Failure

Indonesia national team striker Mitchell Baker has finally spoken out following his side’s failure to reach the semi-finals of the 2026 AFF Championship.

Baker made a dream start to his international career. At the 2026 AFF Championship, the 19-year-old striker marked his Indonesia debut with a hat-trick as the Garuda cruised to a 5-1 victory over Cambodia.

Following Indonesia’s elimination, Baker finally addressed the disappointment. In a post on his personal Instagram account, @_mitchell.baker, on Monday (10/8), Baker apologised to Indonesia’s supporters.

The striker also said the setback would serve as valuable experience ahead of the team’s next tournament. Indonesia’s nearest assignment will be the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup, which is scheduled to take place from September to October.

“Sorry we couldn’t achieve our goal for our country. We will take this as a lesson and come back stronger. Indonesia, the best is yet to come,” Baker wrote.

Indonesia have been selected as co-hosts of the 2026 FIFA ASEAN Cup alongside Hong Kong. The Garuda have been drawn into Group A of Division 1 alongside India, Malaysia and Singapore.
