Shin Tae-yong Frustrated as Persija Jakarta Become ‘Nomads’ Against Java United
Persija Jakarta head coach Shin Tae-yong has expressed his disappointment after his side were forced to play their home fixture against Java United away from Jakarta in the 2026/27 Super League.
Persija Jakarta are set to host Java United in Matchweek 3 of the Super League 2026/27. However, despite being the designated home team, the match on Saturday, September 19, will be played at Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali.
The situation means Persija will once again have to play as a ‘nomad’ team, with the Macan Kemayoran unable to welcome their opponents at their usual home venues in Jakarta.
The Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) is currently being prepared ahead of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. Meanwhile, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is unavailable as it is being used for an international concert by The Weeknd.
The circumstances have clearly disappointed Shin Tae-yong. The South Korean coach believes it is unfortunate that Persija cannot play their home fixture in the capital or receive direct support from The Jakmania.
“Yes, in short, this is really unfortunate. It is very disappointing and heartbreaking,” Shin Tae-yong said during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Java United clash on Friday (September 18).
“Even though this is our home game, the fact that our fans cannot support us and that we have to play a home match far away from home is truly heartbreaking,” he added.
Despite having to play hundreds of kilometres away from their supporters, Shin Tae-yong urged The Jakmania to continue backing Persija from home.
The former South Korea national team coach also promised that his players would give everything on the pitch to repay the support from their loyal fans.
“Personally, I hope this situation does not happen. But still, I would be very grateful if you could support us from home while watching the game on TV, and we will do our very best to repay your support,” Shin Tae-yong concluded.
Persija head into the Java United clash aiming to maintain their strong start to the Super League 2026/27 season. However, playing away from Jakarta and without direct support from The Jakmania presents an additional challenge for Shin Tae-yong and his squad.
