Spain continued their remarkable run of form by defeating Croatia 4-1 in the second matchday of the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday, September 30. The victory at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan extended La Roja’s unbeaten run to 40 international matches.

Spain dominated the contest and eventually secured a comfortable victory through goals from Lamine Yamal, Marc Pubill and Nico Williams, with Yamal completing a brace. Croatia managed to pull one goal back through Dion Drena Beljo, but the result was never in serious doubt as Spain maintained their control of the game.

The victory also strengthened Luis de la Fuente’s side at the top of Group C, where they now sit on six points from their opening two matches. More importantly, however, the result added another milestone to an already extraordinary period for Spanish football.

According to Squawka, Spain have become the only team in international football history to go 40 consecutive matches without defeat. Their remarkable sequence has also coincided with major success on the international stage, including their Euro 2024 triumph and their World Cup title in the summer of 2026.

The current run has been particularly impressive under De la Fuente, with Spain also recording nine consecutive victories across all competitions. That winning streak began during June and July 2024 and has since developed into one of the most consistent periods in the national team’s history.

Spain’s record in the Nations League has also continued to improve. According to the same report, La Roja have now recorded 18 victories in the competition, leaving them just one win behind Greece and Portugal.

Their attacking numbers underline why Spain have been so difficult to contain. Stats Foot reports that La Roja have scored 70 goals in Nations League competition, giving them the highest tally among all teams to have participated in the tournament.

Fabian Ruiz has also played a significant role during this remarkable period. The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder has made 52 appearances for Spain across all competitions during the run, helping the national team record 37 victories and 15 draws in those matches.

For Spain, the latest victory over Croatia was therefore about more than another three points. It further underlined the consistency of a team that has combined an impressive winning mentality with sustained attacking quality, while continuing to rewrite the record books under De la Fuente.
