Tottenham Hotspur Target Marseille Forward in Attacking Overhaul
Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to reshape their attack this summer, with Marseille forward Amine Gouiri emerging as another target for head coach Roberto De Zerbi.
Spurs have already spent more than €300 million strengthening their squad under the Italian manager. Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush are reportedly close to completing moves to north London, but Tottenham are still looking for a new central striker to provide another option in De Zerbi’s attacking system.
According to Corriere dello Sport, De Zerbi has identified Gouiri as a player he would like to bring to Tottenham. The manager already knows the Algeria international well, having previously worked with him in southern France, and is understood to be convinced that the forward would fit his tactical ideas.
Tottenham could also benefit from Marseille’s current financial situation.
The French club have been instructed to raise funds through player sales as they attempt to avoid potential sanctions from the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG), French football’s financial monitoring authority. Marseille therefore need to strengthen their balance sheet, and Gouiri could represent one of their most valuable assets.
The 25-year-old has established himself as an important attacking player since joining Marseille. Last season, the former Lyon academy product scored eight goals and provided three assists in 22 Ligue 1 appearances.
His current valuation, combined with Marseille’s financial needs, could make a transfer particularly viable for Tottenham. De Zerbi’s existing relationship with Gouiri could also give Spurs an advantage in negotiations.
However, Tottenham are not the only club interested in the forward. Napoli are reportedly monitoring Gouiri as they search for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who has already left the club. The Italian champions are therefore considering the Marseille forward as one of their attacking options for the new season.
Gouiri now finds himself at the centre of a potentially competitive transfer battle between Premier League and Serie A clubs. Marseille’s financial circumstances could accelerate developments, particularly if an offer arrives that meets their valuation.
For Tottenham, signing Gouiri would further strengthen an attack that has already undergone significant investment this summer. For De Zerbi, meanwhile, the opportunity to reunite with a player he knows well could make the Algeria international an appealing addition to his plans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
