Borussia Dortmund have reportedly emerged as the leading contenders to sign Barcelona defender Hector Fort, with the 20-year-old said to be increasingly interested in moving to the Bundesliga.

Fort, a product of Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy, has attracted attention from several clubs across Europe. Alongside Dortmund, teams from both Italy and Spain have reportedly explored the possibility of signing the young right-back.

However, Fort is understood to have rejected approaches from other interested parties as he prioritises a move to Germany. The Catalan defender reportedly sees Dortmund as the ideal destination for the next stage of his development.

With the summer transfer window approaching its closure, negotiations could accelerate rapidly. Dortmund are believed to regard Fort as a long-term investment and want to provide him with an opportunity to continue competing at the highest level.

Fort’s reported preference for Dortmund has already forced Real Sociedad and Roma to reconsider their pursuit. With the player seemingly determined to move to Signal Iduna Park and Dortmund also keen on securing his services, the transfer could now depend largely on whether the two clubs can reach an agreement over the fee.

Barcelona have reportedly set an asking price of around €20 million for Fort. However, Dortmund are expected to begin negotiations at a significantly lower figure, with a bid of approximately €10 million potentially enough to open serious discussions for the Spain Under-20 international.

Fort spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Elche, making 14 appearances in La Liga as he gained valuable experience away from Barcelona.

Despite the temporary move, Fort remains under contract with Barcelona until 2029. His long-term future at the Catalan club, however, appears increasingly uncertain as Dortmund push to bring him to Germany.

A permanent move would give Fort the opportunity to establish himself in one of Europe’s most competitive leagues and continue his development under Dortmund’s renowned pathway for young players.

The coming days could therefore determine whether Fort finally gets his wish of playing in the Bundesliga. Should Dortmund fail to reach an agreement with Barcelona, the defender could instead face another loan spell elsewhere as he continues to wait for his opportunity to establish himself at the highest level.
