Getafe recently explored the possibility of signing Jadon Sancho, but the former Manchester United winger has reportedly received an alternative offer that could take him to Saudi Arabia instead. As negotiations with a Saudi club progress, the prospect of the Englishman’s move to Spain appears to be fading.

Sancho is currently a free agent after his contract with Manchester United expired last summer. Although he has yet to secure a new club, Getafe had made an approach and even opened negotiations over a potential short-term deal.

The Madrid-based club reportedly proposed a one-year contract in an attempt to bring the winger to the blue side of the Spanish capital. However, financial demands quickly emerged as a significant obstacle to reaching an agreement.

According to Marca, Sancho was seeking a salary of around €3 million for the short-term contract, while Getafe were reportedly only able to offer approximately €400,000. The same report indicated that the Spanish club’s initial proposal may have been higher than that figure, but a substantial gap between the two parties’ expectations remained.

Saudi Interest Complicates Getafe’s Pursuit

Getafe are looking to strengthen their squad by adding another winger as they prepare to compete across three competitions. Manager Jose Bordalas wants greater depth in his attacking options, and Sancho had emerged as a potential addition to help meet those requirements.

However, the negotiations took a different turn after Sancho reportedly informed Getafe president Angel Torres that he was also in discussions with a club from Saudi Arabia. The Saudi side is understood to be prepared to meet his financial demands, making the proposal a more attractive option than Getafe’s offer.

With the Saudi offer believed to be significantly higher, Getafe now face the prospect of missing out on their target. Sancho’s reluctance to accept the Spanish club’s terms means the Azulones may have to wait until the winter transfer window to strengthen their squad further.

For now, the identity of the Saudi club involved in the negotiations remains unknown. Nevertheless, its willingness to meet Sancho’s salary expectations could prove decisive in determining the winger’s next destination.

Sancho Looks for His Next Opportunity

Sancho spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he featured in 39 matches across all competitions. During that spell, he helped the Birmingham-based club secure the Europa League title, contributing one goal and three assists.

Although his goal contributions were modest, the loan spell gave Sancho another opportunity to compete regularly after an unsettled period at Manchester United. Now available on a free transfer, the 26-year-old has the flexibility to consider his options without the need for a transfer fee.

Getafe’s interest offered him a potential route back into Spanish football, but the financial difference between the two proposals has complicated that possibility. Unless the Spanish club can improve its offer or Sancho revises his demands, a move to Saudi Arabia could become the more realistic outcome.

For Getafe, the immediate challenge will be to identify alternative targets if negotiations fail to progress. For Sancho, meanwhile, the decision will depend on which opportunity best matches his financial expectations and ambitions for the next stage of his career.
