Manchester City Ready to Meet Chelsea’s Price Tag for Enzo Fernandez?
Manchester City are reportedly prepared to meet Chelsea’s asking price for Enzo Fernandez, with the Premier League champions willing to spend as much as £120 million to bring the Argentina international to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
City remain determined to strengthen their midfield before the transfer window closes. The club are already close to completing a deal for Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, with Fabrizio Romano having reported that the move has reached the “here we go” stage, but Fernandez has also emerged as a priority target for Enzo Maresca’s side.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea have placed a £120 million valuation on their captain. City are believed to be ready to match that figure as they look to secure another high-profile addition to their midfield.
Manchester City have reportedly generated significant funds through the departures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders, giving them greater financial flexibility to pursue Fernandez.
Rodri’s absence has left a considerable void in the centre of Pep Guardiola’s squad, despite the arrival of Elliot Anderson. The England international is viewed as a player capable of filling the role previously associated with Bernardo Silva, while Fernandez would be expected to take on greater responsibility as City look to compensate for Rodri’s departure.
Fernandez’s potential arrival could therefore provide City with a technically gifted midfielder capable of contributing both defensively and in possession. His ability to dictate play, carry the ball forward and contribute in the final third has made him one of Chelsea’s most important players since joining the club.
A move could also appeal to Fernandez, who is reportedly open to seeking a new challenge away from Stamford Bridge. Despite being named Chelsea captain, the Argentina international has faced significant pressure during his time in London and could now consider a move to another Premier League contender.
Negotiations between Chelsea and Manchester City are expected to take place before the transfer window closes. However, Fernandez is not the only midfielder City are monitoring.
The club are also reportedly looking for a defensive midfielder as a precautionary measure should Nico Gonzalez leave the Etihad Stadium for Newcastle United. Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton has emerged as another potential target.
With several midfield moves potentially taking place before deadline day, Manchester City could be set for a significant reshaping of their engine room. Fernandez remains the headline target, and a £120 million bid would demonstrate just how seriously City are prepared to pursue the Chelsea captain.
