Bayern Munich secured a 4-2 victory over Heidenheim in their final pre-season friendly on Tuesday night, but the result was overshadowed by another worrying incident involving Jamal Musiala.

Playing at the Voith-Arena, Bayern had to come from behind twice before eventually turning the game around. However, attention quickly shifted to Musiala after the Germany international collapsed on the pitch for the second time in just four days.

Musiala was introduced by Vincent Kompany in the second half and suffered the episode only minutes after entering the field. The 23-year-old appeared disoriented before falling to the ground without any apparent collision, prompting immediate medical attention.

The incident understandably raised concerns among supporters, particularly after Musiala had experienced a similar episode during Bayern’s previous friendly against RB Leipzig four days earlier.

Following the latest incident, Musiala received an outpouring of support from fans and the wider football community. He subsequently addressed the situation himself, reassuring supporters that he was doing well while explaining the medical condition behind the two episodes.

Musiala revealed that he has been diagnosed with temporary, brief and treatable absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction. He stressed that he is receiving specialist medical care and that doctors have found no additional health risk.

The Bayern midfielder also thanked everyone who had sent messages of support and said he remains optimistic about his recovery.

“I’m fine. I’m especially grateful for your messages and support,” Musiala said in a statement shared publicly. He added that the episodes may look frightening but are currently part of his daily life and that he is working closely with medical specialists to manage the condition.

Absence seizures are a type of non-convulsive seizure that can cause a brief interruption of awareness. Unlike the more commonly recognised forms of seizure, they do not typically involve severe muscle jerking or stiffness.

During an absence seizure, a person may suddenly appear to stare blankly or become briefly unresponsive. While people experiencing typical absence seizures do not usually collapse, a loss of awareness or muscle control during intense physical activity can potentially result in a fall.

That context makes Musiala’s two incidents particularly concerning given that they occurred while he was participating in professional football matches. However, the player’s latest statement indicates that his condition is being monitored and treated by specialists.

The latest episode also comes after a difficult period for Musiala. The Bayern star missed around six months last season after suffering a serious ankle injury at the Club World Cup before returning to action and representing Germany at the 2026 World Cup.

For now, Musiala’s health will take priority over football. While the attacking midfielder remains determined to continue playing, his return to competitive action will ultimately depend on medical advice and clearance from the specialists overseeing his treatment.
