Persik Must Uphold Kediri and Indonesia’s Pride in Malaysia
Persik Kediri will represent Indonesia at the Governor’s 77th Anniversary International Quadrangular Football Tournament in Malacca, Malaysia.
Persik are one of the Indonesian representatives invited to compete in the ASEAN club tournament. The Governor’s 77th Anniversary International Quadrangular Football Tournament 2026 will see the side known as the White Tigers face three clubs from Cambodia, Singapore and hosts Malaysia.
The tournament hosts are Melaka FC. Cambodia will be represented by Phnom Penh Crown FC, while Singapore will send Jurong FC. The winners of the opening matches will advance directly to the final to compete for the title.
Despite the tournament being held as part of their pre-season preparations, head coach Marcos Reina has urged his players to give their best and target victory, with the ultimate goal of winning the competition.
“We will try to win, as we always do in every match. This is a pre-season competition, but it is also an international tournament,” Marcos Reina said, as quoted by I League.
“It would be very enjoyable for the people of Kediri if we could win against clubs from Malaysia, Cambodia and Singapore,” he added.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Persik sporting director Razzi Taruna believes the tournament is significant not only for the club but also for Indonesia. The former PSIM Jogja manager has therefore called on Persik’s players to uphold the club’s pride and reputation throughout the competition.
“This is not just about football matches. It is also about friendship between countries and an opportunity to represent the club’s identity and values. Persik Kediri are a club with two Indonesian league titles. Because of that, I ask everyone to uphold that honour,” Razzi Taruna said.
