Asked About New Signings, Igor Tolic Jokes About AC Milan Star Luka Modric
Persib Bandung head coach Igor Tolic has hinted that the club could still bring in new players, joking that even AC Milan star Luka Modric could join if the budget allows.
Persib have recently been linked with several players, particularly in the goalkeeper position. The names reportedly include Ivan Susak, Mathieu Patouillet, and Andreas Leitner. However, Patouillet is no longer an option after officially joining Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois 29.
Asked about the possibility of adding another player to his squad, Tolic jokingly mentioned former Real Madrid star Luka Modric, who currently plays for AC Milan.
“Yes, there is still room. I think we can still save a place for Luka Modric if he wants to come,” Igor Tolic joked to reporters.
The Croatian coach explained that Persib still have room to strengthen several positions. He also revealed that he has been presented with several potential targets, although the club must consider its financial limitations before making a decision.
“I know some players. Many people have already sent me the names of players. So, yes, I want to add players. But there is a budget, and there are players who are already here. Then we try to make the best of what is possible,” he said.
While Persib could still make additions to their squad, Tolic understands that the club must also prepare for the possibility of failing to land new players.
The Croatian coach explained that Persib are currently trying to maintain financial balance, making the budget a crucial factor when looking for quality reinforcements.
“As I said before, we don’t have unlimited funds just to buy players. So we are trying to find a balance, build the best possible squad, and achieve success in all competitions. That is what we are trying to do,” he added.
If Persib are unable to complete another signing, Tolic will have to maximize the players already available in his squad and make the most of their individual strengths.
The coach also acknowledged the demanding schedule ahead, particularly with Persib competing in multiple competitions while several players could also be involved with their respective national teams.
“This is the first time this has happened. Four or five competitions, even six for players with the national team. So this is a very demanding season. We need to have a lot of players. But as I said, we are trying to do our best to find the right combination,” Tolic concluded.
