Despite No Longer Wearing the Persib Jersey, Kevin Mendoza Still Feels the Love from Bobotoh
Philippines national team goalkeeper Kevin Ray Mendoza felt deeply moved by the warm reception from Bobotoh. Despite not appearing in the match against Vietnam, Kevin Ray Mendoza remains proud of the constant support provided by the Persib fans.
As previously known, Kevin Ray Mendoza was included in the Philippines squad competing in the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. The Azkals are drawn into Group B alongside Vietnam, Pakistan, and Thailand, with matches taking place at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (SJH).
“When I saw the fans, the Bobotoh, I was deeply moved and happy to see them all. I feel very honored that they were there to support us, and yes, I’m thrilled to see them,” Kevin told reporters.
The Philippines played their opening match on Saturday, September 26, 2026, against Vietnam. In that fixture, Carles Cuadrat’s side fell to a 1-0 defeat. Kevin Mendoza was rested, with the Philippines placing their trust in Michael Falkesgaard between the posts.
Despite sitting out the match, spectators in the east stand of SJH Stadium still welcomed Kevin warmly. Following the final whistle, fans sang chants until the Danish-born keeper approached the east stand to acknowledge them.
“It was incredible to see them and hear them singing a song for me. So, I am really happy to see them,” he added.
Given the overwhelming support, Kevin truly feels that Bandung remains one of the most comfortable places in his life. He also expressed his deep appreciation to Bobotoh for continuing to back him even though he no longer wears the Persib shirt.
“I am so grateful. It’s amazing to see all the Bobotoh. I genuinely love these fans, and they hold a special place in my heart. It’s very touching to see them and hear them sing my song,” he explained.
When asked about the defeat to Vietnam, Kevin acknowledged that it was not the desired outcome, as the Philippines had targeted a victory. The loss also slightly tarnished what was meant to be a joyful occasion as he turns 32.
However, Kevin refuses to dwell on the disappointment. The Philippines will look to secure maximum points in their next match against Pakistan on September 29. He hopes Bobotoh will turn out in full force once again and that he will get the opportunity to play.
“Actually, my birthday falls on the matchday against Pakistan on September 29. So I really hope they will come out and support us again,” he concluded.
