Not Selected by John Herdman, Marc Klok Sends Message to Indonesia National Team
Persib Bandung midfielder Marc Klok admitted he was disappointed after John Herdman left him out of the Indonesia national team squad for the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026. However, Klok continues to respect the coach’s decision.
Representing the Indonesia national team has always been a dream for Marc Klok since he became an Indonesian citizen. As a result, he has continued to work hard to achieve that dream and consistently give his best whenever he is given the opportunity to play, both for the national team and Persib Bandung.
“Yes, definitely. I’m sad that I’m not there because I think, based on my performance, I should also be there,” Marc Klok told reporters.
Despite his disappointment at being left out of the Indonesia squad, Klok chose to respond positively. The Persib midfielder continues to fully support his teammates who are representing the Garuda at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026.
“But I’m not there now, and I support them with as much support as possible. For Thom (Haye), for Ragnar (Oratmangoen), but also for all the players there,” he added.
Speaking about Indonesia’s squad at the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026, Klok believes the Garuda have a strong group of players. He also acknowledged that John Herdman has plenty of options to choose from as Indonesia aim for success in the tournament.
“We can see that there is a lot of quality in the squad. Coach John (Herdman) has many options to choose from. All the players there are great players, so support them, support them,” Klok said.
Klok also praised his two Persib teammates, Ragnar Oratmangoen and Thom Haye, for their contributions in Indonesia’s opening match against Singapore.
Ragnar scored Indonesia’s opening goal in the 2-0 victory, while Thom Haye was also praised for his contribution in midfield. Klok hopes both players can continue making a positive impact and help Indonesia achieve success on the international stage.
“Yesterday, Ragnar scored a very good goal for him, to give him more confidence. We also know that Thom is a great player. So, yes, we always wish them the best. We always wish them the best,” Marc Klok concluded.
