Persija Jakarta head coach Shin Tae-yong has addressed his surprising decisions to bench captain Rizky Ridho and leave Shayne Pattynama out of the squad for their away match against PSIM Yogyakarta.

Persija delivered a dominant performance in their BRI Super League 2026/27 fixture at Sultan Agung Stadium on Saturday (10/10), securing a convincing 4-0 victory over the hosts.

All four goals came in the second half, scored by Alexander Jeremejeff, Stjepan Loncar (a double), and Kwon Chang-hoon.

Shin Tae-yong raised eyebrows prior to kickoff by leaving team captain Rizky Ridho out of the starting lineup, handing the captain’s armband to defender Radovan Pankov instead.

“For Ridho, because he previously featured in national team matches, he experienced fatigue and was not included in the starting XI. Therefore, Pankov replaced him as captain,” Shin explained.

Despite starting on the bench, the 24-year-old defender was brought on in the 75th minute to help shore up the defense and secure the clean sheet.

Another talking point was the absence of Shayne Pattynama from the matchday squad altogether. Shin revealed that the decision was driven by tactical preparation and squad depth at left-back.

“As for Shayne, since he also played for the national team recently and missed tactical training sessions, he was excluded from the squad,” Shin said.
