Without Kevin Diks, Borussia Mönchengladbach Secure First Points of the Season
Despite the absence of Kevin Diks, Borussia Mönchengladbach successfully secured their first points of the season following a 3–2 victory over VfB Stuttgart. The Bundesliga Matchday 7 fixture, held at the MHP Arena on Saturday, October 24, 2026, ended in a hard-fought win for the visitors.
Kevin Diks was forced to miss the match due to personal reasons. He was joined on the sidelines by several other teammates for various reasons, including Isac Lidberg, Fritz Fleck, and Tim Kleindienst, who were ruled out with muscle issues, as well as Ko Itakura and Franck Honorat, who are currently recovering from injury.
Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Alexander Blessin expressed pride in his side’s performance during this away trip. Despite being caught off guard by an early goal from VfB Stuttgart striker Edin Demirović, his team stayed calm and stuck to their game plan.
“We came from behind before, but this time we managed to go all the way and win the match. After conceding so early, we held our ground, grew in confidence, won the ball back in key areas, and settled into our shape,” Blessin explained via the club’s official website.
Blessin highlighted that Joe Scally’s 38th-minute equalizer provided a major boost to the team’s morale. In fact, Blessin felt Mönchengladbach could have taken the lead before the break, though time ran out, requiring them to pursue the winner in the second half.
“We deserved the goal and could even have gone ahead before halftime. The break actually came at a slightly inconvenient moment for us, but the players gave everything again in the second half and kept fighting until the end,” he added.
Despite securing the win, Borussia Mönchengladbach remain at the bottom of the Bundesliga table, trailing the teams above them by two points.
Nevertheless, Blessin remains unconcerned by their league position, emphasizing that the squad continues to show steady progress match after match. He is confident this victory will boost the team’s confidence heading into their upcoming fixtures.
“The important thing is that we’ve started picking up points, and everyone can see the fighting spirit in this team. However, we can’t afford to get complacent. We have to keep working hard. This result will certainly give us confidence for the next match,” Blessin concluded.
