Persija Jakarta Await Shin Tae-yong’s Final Squad Decision, More New Signings to Follow?
Persija Jakarta are still waiting for Shin Tae-yong to finalize his squad plans ahead of the 2026/27 Super League season, with the club leaving the door open for further additions to the team.
Persija sporting director Bambang Pamungkas has confirmed that the final decision regarding the squad composition rests entirely with head coach Shin Tae-yong.
The arrangement was part of the club’s initial agreement with the South Korean coach, particularly given Persija’s ambitious targets for the upcoming campaign.
“Like we said some time ago, regarding the squad and team composition, it is 100 percent the authority of coach Shin Tae-yong,” Bambang told reporters, including Vivagoal, on Thursday afternoon.
“That was part of our initial commitment with coach Shin Tae-yong. We have also set a fairly high target, so that responsibility has to come with it.”
Persija have yet to receive an official update from Shin Tae-yong regarding the positions or players he still wants to add to his squad.
However, the Jakarta-based club could still make further moves in the transfer market. Persija reportedly have three foreign-player slots available for the upcoming season, giving Shin Tae-yong room to strengthen his squad if required.
The club has already added Swedish striker Alexander Jeremejeff to its ranks, but Bambang refused to rule out further arrivals.
“We all saw yesterday that there was a new player, Alexander Jeremejeff from Sweden. As for whether there will be another new player, we will just have to wait and see,” Bambang said.
The Persija hierarchy is also expected to meet with Shin Tae-yong in the coming days to discuss the final requirements for the squad.
“Maybe within the next one or two days, we will meet with coach Shin Tae-yong to make sure what is needed and how far the process has gone. Everything is directly handled by coach Shin Tae-yong,” Bambang added.
With the new season approaching, Persija’s squad is therefore not necessarily complete yet. Further additions could still arrive if Shin Tae-yong believes they are needed to help the club achieve its targets in the 2026/27 Super League campaign.
