Indonesia U-20 Beat Australia to Qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup
The Indonesia U-20 national team has secured a spot in the final tournament of the 2027 U-20 Asian Cup after defeating Australia in their final Group H qualifying match.
In the match held at the New Lao Stadium on Sunday (Sep 6), Nova Arianto’s squad delivered a solid 90-minute performance to beat Australia 2-0.
With both teams needing a win to guarantee qualification, the match started with intense back-and-forth attacks.
Indonesia broke the deadlock in the 28th minute. Theodore Evan Leeming latched onto a well-placed pass from Zahaby Gholy, chipping the Australian goalkeeper before heading the ball into the net.
Taking the early lead allowed the young Garuda squad to play with more composure, creating several chances in the second half to extend their advantage.
They finally sealed the victory in injury time when Amar Brkic finished off a swift counterattack with a precise low strike.
Brkic’s goal effectively killed off Australia’s hopes, securing top spot in Group H for Indonesia and sending them through to the final tournament.
Across their three matches, Indonesia U-20 gathered 7 points from two wins and a draw, impressively keeping a clean sheet throughout the entire qualifying campaign.
