Marc Klok Insists Persib’s Victory over Sabah FC Was Not the Main Target
Persib captain Marc Klok has his own perspective on the team’s positive result against Sabah FC. For Klok, winning a preseason match is not Persib’s primary objective.
Klok explained that the team’s biggest focus at the moment is building stronger connections and understanding among the players on the pitch. This is particularly important given the number of new players Persib have brought in during the current transfer window.
According to Klok, victories always bring happiness and can also send a warning to their rivals ahead of the upcoming official competitions. However, he believes a victory will be far more meaningful if it comes as a result of strong team chemistry.
In addition to building team cohesion, Persib are using the preseason period to further develop the various tactical systems prepared by the coaching staff. The team are expected to introduce several changes to their style of play next season.
“This is not about winning. It’s about getting to know each other better, it’s about learning, and it’s about taking the things we do in training and applying them in matches,” Marc Klok told reporters.
With around two weeks remaining in their preparations, Klok assured that the entire squad would continue working hard to improve their performance. Persib have high ambitions this season, particularly as they look to make a stronger impression in Asian club competition.
“We still have time now, two weeks to prepare and become a better unit and build more chemistry. So, game by game, we can apply those things and continue to improve,” he added.
Although he welcomed the positive result against Sabah FC, Klok refused to become complacent. He reminded his teammates that there is still plenty of work to be done in training to build the ideal squad depth for the season ahead.
“Of course, it’s always nice when some of those things work, when you score goals from good moves or whatever it may be. It’s always nice to win, but the most important thing is to keep building the team, keep building the squad, and become a better unit.”
