Stjepan Loncar Admits Shin Tae-yong’s Training Regimen Is Tough
Stjepan Loncar has opened up about Persija Jakarta’s training programme during their pre-season camp in Thailand, admitting that the sessions under head coach Shin Tae-yong have been extremely demanding.
Persija are holding their training camp in Hua Hin, Thailand, from August 10 to 23 as part of their final preparations for the 2026/27 Super League season.
Shin Tae-yong has scheduled two training sessions every day. The coach, widely known as STY, is working on both the players’ physical condition and the team’s tactical preparations.
The intensity of Shin Tae-yong’s training programme was highlighted by Loncar, with the Bosnia and Herzegovina international admitting that he was exhausted after completing the sessions.
“Training in Thailand has been very hard. In the morning, we worked in the gym, and now in the afternoon we had a good session with sprints, ball possession and several polygon drills,” Loncar said.
“I’m enjoying it, but right now I’m very tired.”
Shin Tae-yong’s demanding physical training methods have long been well known. Indonesia national team players experienced similar sessions during his tenure between 2020 and 2024.
STY places a strong emphasis on physical conditioning, believing it is essential for maintaining consistency throughout matches.
Despite the demanding workload, Loncar is enjoying Persija’s training camp in Thailand. The quality of the facilities has also helped the players carry out the intensive sessions.
“The pitch is very good, so we are enjoying it. We still have 12 days here to prepare ourselves and do our best during the training camp,” he added.
“Next week, we also have two friendly matches, so we have to prepare ourselves and give our best.”
